The Basics

The model behind short drama apps is a simple one. What you watch are bite-size vertical episodes. The first few cost nothing. Coins or a pass pay for the later ones. Most of the confusion starts with that split. The five answers below are a good place to start.

What is a short drama app?

It streams vertical Revenge short reels video designed for phones. Each series is broken into many short episodes. ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax and My Drama lead the field. Billionaires, revenge and identity reveals are popular plot ingredients. Werewolf romances are likewise popular. The format began in China as duanju.

How long does each episode run?

Most last one to two minutes. Western productions often target 60 to 100 seconds. A series usually has 20 to 100 episodes. ReelShort lists 90 installments for Married at First Sight. Double Life, a ReelShort hit, lists 60. A full series can rival a movie in length.

Why do episodes stop right at cliffhangers?

Usually, that is where the free episodes end. ReelShort notes that the first 5 to 15 are usually free. Industry reporting cites 8 to 10. The lock usually land at peak tension. That very timing is the business model. It is at the same time one of the top complaints from viewers.

Who owns ReelShort, DramaBox and My Drama?

ReelShort is owned by Crazy Maple Studio based in Sunnyvale, California. China’s COL Group supports that studio. Singapore’s StoryMatrix, part of Beijing Dianzhong Technology, operates DramaBox. My Drama is a Holywater product, and Holywater was founded in Kyiv in 2020. Fox Entertainment bought an equity stake in October 2025. ReelShort launched in 2022, while DramaBox followed in 2023.

Can I watch in a browser or on TV?

Yes, though there are limits. My Drama has an Apple TV app. We came across no verified ReelShort TV app at all. On ReelShort’s website, you can log in with Google, Facebook, Apple, TikTok or email. Your viewing progress syncs with the app. Free unlocks are possible only in the app.

Pricing

Questions about money come up most. The figures given are US App Store prices as of September 2026. They vary depending on country, platform and promotion. Treat every number as a rough guide. Before anything else, always look at the pricing screen. This is what listings show.

Is ReelShort free to use?

Partly, and what is free really is free. Anyone searching “is reel short free” or “is reel short app free” wants the catch. The download is free. The opening episodes are free. Coins or a VIP pass unlock the later ones. Ads and check-ins get you free coins.

How does the coin system work?

Coins act as the currency that unlocks episodes. According to ReelShort’s blog, an episode costs roughly 60 coins. Its smallest pack is around $4.99 for 500 coins. Bigger packs come with extra coins. Two episodes open up after one rewarded ad. You earn 100+ coins from a 7-day check-in streak.

Do the coins expire?

It comes down to the app. According to ReelShort, free reward coins usually expire. Paid coins do not. My Drama handles this differently. Its terms void coins after 12 months of inactivity. Spend reward coins first and keep active.

What is the price of a weekly pass?

Roughly $19.99 a week is the usual US price. It is listed by ReelShort, ShortMax, DramaWave, GoodShort and My Drama. Some apps include cheaper tiers. ShortMax’s listing shows $9.99, while GoodShort starts around $5.99. All these passes renew automatically. Four forgotten weeks cost four times as much.

Can I get a monthly or yearly plan?

Some apps do offer them. ReelShort’s blog puts a yearly plan at roughly $199.99. Its monthly price is not the same on every page. That figure is therefore unconfirmed. DramaWave’s listing shows roughly $36.99 a month. ShortMax shows only weekly passes in the US.

Can I watch without paying?

Yes, if you have patience. Begin by watching each series’ free opening episodes. Use rewarded ads to unlock more. Keep up a daily check-in streak. There are also official ReelShort channels on YouTube, TikTok and Dailymotion. Combining all four stretches furthest.

Subscriptions and Cancellation

Weekly passes do not stop renewing until you stop them. That surprises plenty of people. Once you know where to go, cancelling is quick. Where to cancel comes down to how you paid. App stores cancel what was bought in them. Website purchases are handled by the company.

Does deleting the app cancel my subscription?

No, and it is a common mistake. According to Apple, removing an app does not end its subscription. The same goes for uninstalling, according to Google. My Drama’s terms include the same warning. Your pass keeps renewing until you cancel it. Cancel first, then delete.

How do I cancel a subscription on iPhone?

To start, open the Google Play Store app. Open your Subscriptions list. Pick the drama app there. Tap Cancel, then follow the prompts. Keep in mind that uninstalling does not cancel anything. Look at the list again to confirm the change.

Can I cancel within the app?

Sometimes, but the store path is safer. ShortMax’s terms refer to an in-app option under About Subscription. The same terms send store buyers to App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google only have control over what they billed. Website buyers should get in touch with the company. Keep a screenshot of every cancellation.

Why did I get charged after a free trial?

Trial wording can be confusing. ShortMax’s “free trial” and “24 hours free” labels confused people, its developer acknowledges. According to its terms, passes renew 24 hours before expiry. You pay the same price for the renewal. Make sure to cancel a day before any trial ends. Then confirm the store shows it cancelled.

Refunds

Refunds hinge on who took your money. App Store charges are handled by Apple. Play charges go through Google. Companies deal with website charges. None of these routes guarantees a refund. Each path is mapped in this table.

Where the payment was made How you cancel Refund route Things to watch
iPhone (App Store) Settings, your name, Subscriptions, Cancel The Report a Problem page from Apple Deleting the app won’t cancel
Android (Google Play) Google Play, Subscriptions, Cancel Google within 48 hours, and after that the developer Uninstalling alone does not cancel
Website The app company’s account or support The app company only Often non-refundable, per My Drama’s terms

How can I get an Apple refund?

Use Apple’s Report a Problem page. Use the paying Apple ID to log in. Pick the charge and explain in a few words. Apple usually responds within 24 to 48 hours. Apple, not the app developer, decides. Also cancel the pass, or it renews.

How do Google Play refunds work?

What matters most here is timing. Google says you may get a refund within 48 hours of purchase. Request it through Google Play directly. After that window, get in touch with the developer. For ReelShort, the path is Profile, then Feedback. If a renewal surprises you, act quickly.

What about buying on the website?

Those purchases go through the app company. Neither Apple nor Google can help there. Web purchases are non-refundable except where law requires, My Drama’s terms say. Its terms give a 14-day withdrawal right to EU and UK users. Each other company sets its own rules. Go through the terms before paying online.

Can unused coins be refunded?

Usually not, and the terms state it. Under My Drama’s terms, coin purchases are final. ShortMax will not refund unless its own fault makes a product unusable. Store requests may help with accidental purchases. Buy the smallest bundle until a series hooks you. That way, mistakes cost less.

Staying Safe from Look-Alike Apps

We could not find an official rename announcement. Searches for “short tv” or “short max” also turn up unrelated apps.

Is it safe to use mod APKs and coin generators?

Why is ReelShort rated low on Trustpilot?

ReelShort’s Trustpilot page sits at 1.3 out of 5 from 250 reviews. Reviewers frequently complain about charges after cancelling. Complaints about weekly auto-renewals come up often. Coin prices and refused refunds are mentioned by others. Any review site reflects those who chose to post. Read it as a checklist, not a verdict.
