Primary Guide for School Behavioral Health

As explained in the PrimaryGuide for the District of Columbia’s School-based Behavioral Health Expansion, “The goal of the District’s Expansion of School-based Behavioral Health is to advance a comprehensive and coordinated school behavioral health system, which is a strategic collaboration between school personnel, community mental health providers, students, and families to create a positive school culture that provides timely access to highquality, reliable supports for children, youth, and their families. Within this system, school-based teams offer a full array of trauma-informed, culturally-responsive, evidence-based tiered interventions to promote wellness, identify challenges early, and offer treatment services when necessary so that all children and youth succeed and thrive.” (3)

Based on the South Capitol Street Memorial Amendment Act of 2012, this Guide was last updated in August 2020.
